Porter Wagoner discography. Porter Wagoner discography. This is a detailed discography for American country music artist Porter Wagoner. - The Porter Wagoner Show. My Baby's Not Here (In Town Tonight)". I'll Go Down Swinging".

Porter Wagoner was a country singer who mixed rhinestone suits, a towering pompadour and cornball jokes with direct, simple songs over a career best known for his partnership with Dolly Parton. Waylon Jennings once said, He couldn’t go pop with a mouthful of firecrackers. In its citation honoring his induction in 2002, the Country Music Hall of Fame called Mr. Wagoner one of country’s elder statesmen. Yet he was hardly shy about making waves. After Ms. Parton left his show in 1974, there were lawsuits and countersuits between the two in a six-year legal tangle over business interests that produced not a few tabloid headlines. One reported that Mr. Wagoner’s wife had found him and Ms. Parton in bed and had shot both. There wasn’t nothing to that, Mr. Wagoner told The Tennessean.

Parton began working with Wagoner after he offered her a coveted spot on both his weekly TV program, The Porter Wagoner Show, and in his traveling show, in 1967. The two also recorded several albums together, including Just the Two of Us and Together Always. More Big Country Music Breakups. Parton's song "I Will Always Love You" was written about her professional break from Wagoner. She played the song for him as her way of saying goodbye. He said, 'That's the prettiest song I ever heard. And you can go, providing I get to produce that record. And he did, and the rest is history.

I just kissed the one I love for the last time Never have her soft lips been so sweet She's gone away and won't be back forever Think I'll go somewhere and cry myself to sleep. I'll go somewhere and cry myself to sleep Not because I'm sad but 'cause I'm weak I can't stand the thought of life alone without her Think I'll go somewhere and cry myself to sleep

C G Cause if I gotta go I'll go down swinging. Where there's lights and laughter booze and blonds. D7 And a lot of sad sad singing. G C G I'll sober up tomorrow and cry all day I know. D7 Play the jukebox till I'm down to my last dime. G C G She thinks she's made a fool of me by loving someone else. D7 G She should see me make a fool out of myself. C G Cause if I gotta go I'll go down swinging
