Dinah Shore (born Fannye Rose Shore; February 29, 1916 – February 24, 1994) was an American singer, actress, and television personality, and the top-charting female vocalist of the 1940s.

The Dinah Shore Show is an American variety show which was broadcast by NBC from November 1951 to July 1957, sponsored by General Motors' Chevrolet division. For most of the program's run, it aired from 7:30 to 7:45 Eastern Time on Tuesday and Thursday nights, rounding out the time slot which featured the network's regular evening newscast (John Cameron Swayze's Camel News Caravan), which, like all such programs of the era, was then only 15 minutes in length.

She was most popular during the Big Band era of the 1940s and 1950s. Born : February 29, 1916 // Winchester, Tennessee, USA Died : February 24, 1994 // Los Angeles, California, USA. After failing singing auditions for the bands of Benny Goodman and both Jimmy Dorsey and his brother Tommy Dorsey, Shore struck out on her own to become the first singer of her era to achieve huge solo success. Stylistically, Dinah Shore was compared to two singers who followed her in the mid-to-late '40s and early '50s, Doris Day and Patti Page. Nei gruppi: Dinah Shore And Her Happy Valley Boys. For Dinah Shore was perhaps the one person in the 1950s and early 1960s most responsible for putting Chevrolet automobiles in the driveways and garages of millions of Americans. In doing so she became the queen of General Motors in its heyday - a super-salesperson and more. For in this role, Dinah Shore also became a 1950s’ cultural icon - and for millions, a much-admired and trusted personality. By 1938, she was in New York, and bounced around some in auditions, radio work, and a big band singing. Xavier Cugat hired her to sing with his band which played at the prestigious Waldorf-Astoria. She recorded some hit songs with Cugat, The Breeze And I of 1940 among them. When the Dinah Shore Chevy Show began in 1956 it started as a series of monthly specials broadcast for an hour on Friday nights. From 1957-1961 it became the Sunday night staple, broadcast at 9 pm.
